Education and character complement each other. Education aims to shape students' character, while character strengthens the essence of education. Without a strong character, education is only a collection of knowledge without a solid moral foundation. In this context, the role of teachers remains the main key, even though AI brings many benefits.
AI has revolutionized the way we learn. This technology provides personalized learning, access to materials that are tailored to needs, and efficient ways to understand difficult concepts. For example, adaptive learning platforms allow students to learn at their own pace, ensuring that no one is left behind. In addition, chatbots and virtual assistants can provide instant answers to questions at any time.
AI also offers convenience for teachers. This technology helps create interactive learning media such as videos, quizzes, and simulations, which increase student engagement. AI provides abundant educational resources, allowing teachers to design more varied learning. However, even though AI supports teaching, this technology still cannot replace the importance of human interaction in character building.
Characters such as empathy, integrity, and responsibility can only be formed through human interaction. AI, no matter how sophisticated, cannot feel or teach these emotional values. In addition, students' dependence on digital technology can reduce the quality of their social relationships. Too much time spent with gadgets distracts from direct interaction, both with teachers and their friends.
This is where the role of teachers becomes important. Teachers must be role models in using technology wisely and responsibly. For example, when teaching English, teachers can use reading texts that discuss the impact of AI on everyday life. After reading, students are invited to discuss analyze the impact, and provide their opinions. This kind of discussion not only improves language skills but also instills an ethical understanding of technology.
Ideal character education requires collaboration between humans and technology. Teachers can integrate technology-based projects that involve group work. Through these projects, students learn to communicate effectively, manage differences, and appreciate individual contributions. All of these are important in building strong character in the digital age.
